HP’s latest line of printers, the new HP LaserJet Pro, is differentiating itself in a crowded feels with a brand new plug and print technology that HP claims will enable customers to print in under two minutes from any computer without any need to install or download drivers or pop a CD into the drive.
Here’s how it works: all you do is hook the printer up to your machine via USB and the printer’s built-in driver will automatically perform the installation process. The process is called HP Smart Install, and it’s different from most USB plug-and-play printers in that it doesn’t use default drivers.
Otherwise, the HP LasertJet Pro P100 Printer series are claimed to be the most energy-efficient laser printers around. The models in the line include the HP LaserJet Pro M1130/M1210 Multifunction Printer (MFP) and the HP LaserJet Pro P1566/P1606dn printer. The design is attractive but business-like aimed primarily at small and mid-size businesses still dealing heavily in dead print.
In addition, HP has improved their Auto-On technology for the LasertJet Pro line, which intelligently senses activity such as when a print job is sent to a printer and turns the device on and off accordingly, saving up to 72% on its energy costs compared to its predecessor.
